Four legged family members in Maui are special people.  Each is different, with different personalities, pastimes, and habits.  

They also have different bodies with different needs.  A puppy or kitten has different physiology from an adult pet, and an elderly special friend is also different from a middle aged adult.

They need less food so they don't become overweight.  They enjoy different activities as they are not as vigorous as they used to be.  The benefit from a lot of social interaction and mental engagement every day to keep their minds sharp and active.

Cats and dogs who are over 7 years of age have different veterinary needs as well.  Here at South Shore Veterinary Care, we give fewer vaccinations to avoid over-vaccination.  Early detection of developing invisible problems is important to make sure you have the longest, happiest life possible.

Older friends hide their health problems.  They do this because in the wild, animals who act sick become targets for predators and lose their social position in the pack.

It has been shown that 17% of all cats and 23% of all dogs are hiding a health problem that could be found with early detection lab work. The earlier we find these issues, the better off our old friends will be.  Maybe they need a special food, supplements, or other steps.
